Knives out 3

Filming for Knives Out 3 has officially commenced, featuring another impressive ensemble for Benoit Blanc’s latest investigation. The title was revealed by writer/director Rian Johnson on May 24, 2024, as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Shortly after, Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny were announced as the first members of the cast, with additional stars joining in the days leading up to the start of filming.

As with Glass Onion, this sequel will debut on Netflix, and Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Benoit Blanc.

To celebrate the start of filming, here’s a comprehensive look at everything you need to know about Wake Up Dead Man.

Knives Out 3 Cast: Who’s Joining Daniel Craig in Wake Up Dead Man?

Daniel Craig is returning as Benoit Blanc, ensuring that the beloved detective will continue his sleuthing in this installment.

The cast announcements kicked off with Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny, known for their roles in Challengers and Priscilla, respectively.

Since then, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Daryl McCormack, Josh Brolin, and Thomas Haden Church have all been added to the lineup.

Although we don’t yet know their roles, it seems likely that the core cast has been set as filming gets underway.

Notably, Jeremy Renner, who previously appeared in Glass Onion as a hot sauce brand ambassador, will be introduced as a new character in this film.

Knives Out 3 Release Date: When Can We Expect Wake Up Dead Man?

While Knives Out 3 is confirmed, an official release date for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has yet to be announced.

The film will be available on Netflix in 2025, having begun production on June 10, 2024.

The first film premiered in November 2019, with the sequel having a limited theatrical release in November 2022 before its December 2022 Netflix debut, becoming one of the platform’s most-watched movies.

Given the success of Glass Onion, a late 2025 release for the new film seems plausible, allowing for a festival run similar to the sequel. However, this is speculative, and an earlier 2025 release would be welcome.

Knives Out 3 Plot: What Will Wake Up Dead Man Be About?

Details about the case Benoit Blanc will tackle in Knives Out 3 remain under wraps, but it promises to be distinct from its predecessors.

Rian Johnson, who is both writing and directing the film, hinted that the title offers a “small clue” about the story’s direction.

Johnson mentioned his love for the diverse range of whodunnits and expressed excitement about exploring new tonal and thematic possibilities.

The title Wake Up Dead Man hints at a possible supernatural element, with Johnson describing it as Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.”

The title also references a U2 song from their 1997 album Pop, which Johnson noted may not be a mere coincidence.

Johnson previously revealed that the third film will return to the US after the second movie’s setting on a Greek island, aiming to keep the series rooted in American settings.

Knives Out 3 Trailer: Any Footage of Wake Up Dead Man Yet?

Filming for Knives Out 3 has begun, but with a release date set for 2025, it will be some time before we see any footage.

For reference, the first teaser for Glass Onion was released in September 2022, two months before its theatrical release. If Wake Up Dead Man follows a similar timeline, we might expect the first footage to appear around September 2025.
